During the past several years, Faculty of Science, Mahidol
University has been actively promoting research activities
by various means and measures. Each year there are approximately
300 research articles being published in well recognized international
journals by academic staff of Faculty of Science, Mahidol
University. It is the mandate of Business Development Unit
(BDU) to seek appropriate avenues to exploit some of these
research outputs.
The main objectives of BDU are to promote various means of
"Research Commercialization"
such as technology licensing, research contract, cooperate
research agreement, and others, to promote linkages with industrial
private sectors, and to work closely with other similar organizations
in Mahidol University such as Mahidol
University Center for Intellectual Property Management
and Stang
Holding Co.,Ltd.
BDU is also responsible for the organization of technical
workshops for introduction of new equipment or new technologies.
In order to promote interaction by industrial partners and
staff of the Faculty, a seminar in the form of "investor
forum" is organized. BDU in collaboration
with MUAT also provides services concerning intellectual property
(IP) such as writing, filing and utilization of patents and
other forms of IP.

The Center for Instrument Facilities (CIF) houses scientific
and research equipment of the Faculty to support
learning, teaching and research. The Center is responsible
for providing basic information for research work as well
as supporting learning and teaching by preparing laboratories,
and providing instruments and equipment for students of all
departments in the Faculty at every level.
The Center also maintains the equipment and offers high quality
services. It supplies various kinds of distilled water for
research work to staff in the Faculty and other sectors both
private and public. In addition, the Center also offers consultation
services in analyzing samples for research and in using the
equipment.
Examples of the equipment at the Center include High Performance
Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry
(LC-MS), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Phosphorimager
(Typhoon Mulipropose Scanner), Flow Cytometer, Automated Microplate
Reader, Chemiluminescene, Ultracentrifuge, Nanodrop, Realtime
PCR, Freeze Dryer and a wide range of analytical equipment.

| The Central Animal
Facility (CAF) Unit is located on the 5th floor of the R building
and the 6th floor of the N building.
The unit functions to facilitate research and teaching activities
of the faculty staff in conducting animal experiments in compliance
to the ethical principles and national guidelines, and approved
by the Animal Care and Use Committee of the Faculty of Science.
Upon request, the unit also supports animal research of outside
faculty members. Mainly, the unit services the ordering, maintenance
and housing of animals including rat, mouse, hamster, and
rabbit. |

Multidisciplinary Laboratory (MDL) |

MDL is the central laboratory for providing experimental classes
for life science and medical science students.
The laboratory provides materials, chemicals, experimental
animals, microorganisms, together with instruments and equipment.
Examples include light microscopes, dynographs, spectrophotometers,
incubators and high speed centrifuges.
