M.Sc. PROGRAM (PHYSIOLOGY) :

The M.Sc. (Physiology) program is intended to provide students with a basic understanding of cellular mechanisms, function of organ systems and the integrated responses of the whole body under both normal physiological and some athophysiological situations. The program  offers a high quality, research-oriented course of study, in a wide range of potential research areas.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR M.Sc. STUDENTS
Applicants must have a B.Sc. degree, in any discipline, with aminimum G.P.A. of. 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale), or its equivalent. All regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies must b fulfilled.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Applications may be obtained at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Salaya Campus, between the end of October and mid-December. Completed application forms may be submitted by mail, internet (http://www.grad.mahidol.ac.th/), or in person, before the announced deadline.  In addition, an entrance examination is required. The written part of the exam is given in December. This includes an aptitude test (in Thai) and a test of English proficiency. Qualified applicants will be interviewed, in English, by the staff of the Physiology Department, as a final step in the selection process.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR M.Sc. STUDENTS
To qualify for graduation, the student must:
1.
Spend a minimum of 2 years and not more than 4 years of full time study.
2.
Complete at least the minimum number of credits required.
.3 Successfully defend a thesis and submit the approved thesis to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Ph.D. PROGRAM (PHYSIOLOGY) :

The Ph.D. (Physiology) program aims to provide students with a broad understanding of cellular mechanisms, functions of organ systems and the integrated responses of the whole body under both normal physiological and some pathophysiological situations. Students, upon completion of the program, will have the critical and analytical skills that will enable them to acquire relevant information from all sources (scientific literature, multimedia, direct experience, and communications with other scientists). The student will learn to evaluate this information and identify rational research questions. He or she will, furthermore, get a wealth of research experience, and will go through the process of writing and defending a dissertation. By way of this process, the student will learn how to formulate original research ideas, implement scientific research ideas into practice, and to accurately disseminate information to peers in the scientific community.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR Ph.D. STUDENTS
1. .Applicants with a degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science or Pharmacy, or a B.Sc. degree in any discipline with a GPA not less than 3.50, or those with an M.Sc. degree with good academic record.
2 . Applicants with a GPA below 3.50 may contact the Chairman of the Department or a Graduate Program advisor and submit their transcripts with letters of recommendation from qualified individuals.
3. Foreign applicants may submit their transcripts/records directly to the Department. A minimum TOEFL score of 500 is required

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Students may apply to the Ph.D. program year-round, directly to the Department of Physiology or through the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR Ph.D. STUDENTS
To qualify for graduation, the student must:
1. Complete all the requirements for the degree within 8 years, from the date of first enrollment.
The expected duration of the Ph.D. Program is normally 4 calendar years.
2. Earn the minimum number of credits (from either B.Sc. or M.Sc.) required.
3. Obtain a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) with a minimum grade of B in all compulsory courses.
4. Perform satisfactorily in the qualifying examinations, as required for Ph.D. Students.
5. Produce a Ph.D. dissertation, which represents the end-product towards which the program is directed.

This demonstrates that the student has the required skills to do independent and original research, and has written it for dissemination. The requirements for the Ph.D. degree include either an international publication (such as an ISI database), or work that merits a patent.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

Exercise physiology is an area of applied physiology dealing with human and animal responses to physical activities. It concerns the mechanisms of regulation, integration, and adaptation of organ systems that occur during acute and chronic exercise.
The aim of this program is to master concepts and knowledge of exercise physiology, as these serve as a basis for scientific improvements in both physical health and sports performance as well as understanding the effects of exercise on body function in diseases.  An additional objective is to educate academic personnel for teaching and doing independent research in exercise physiology and related areas

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR M.Sc. STUDENTS
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in any scientific discipline (natural, medical, physical education or paramedical) from an accredited college,  with a G.P.A. not less than 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale).  All applicants are required to take the entrance examinations given by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.  Qualified candidates will be personally interviewed in English before admission.  All regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies must be fulfilled.

Doctor of Philosophy Program in Exercise Science

Exercise Science is an area of science that integrates the multidisciplinary premise of knowledge in exercise from the level of genome to whole body.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME
To produce graduates with a doctoral degree who appreciate the science of exercise and are capable of performing independent and high quality research.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAMME
“Knowledge and understanding in science of movement and exercise from genome to whole body are essential for the promotion of health and improvement of physical performance for both general public and elite athletes.”
