ขอต้อนรับสู่ภาควิชาจุลชีววิทยา

On behalf of the Department of Microbiology, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our Departmental website and explore our graduate programs and research activities. The Department of Microbiology is proud to say that we are the first department in Thailand to offer graduate programs, both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees since 1964. We are also the first in Thailand to grant the first Ph.D. graduate in Science in 1973. For over 45 years, we have maintained our reputation as one of the best programs in Thailand. In 2007, the Commission on Higher Education ranked our programs first in both teaching and research activities out of the entire Graduate programs in Microbiology offered in Thailand. Also in 2009, Associate Professor Dr. Mongkon Rayanakorn of the Faculty of Science, Chiangmai University, ranked our program as number one in Microbiology based on the numbers of research publications from Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).
Head of Department

Our M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs offer current knowledge in Cellular and Molecular Microbiology covering Immunology, Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology. At present, our Department has 20 staff members in academics (all with Ph.D. and/or M.D. degrees), 5 scientists (one with a Ph.D. and 4 with M.Sc. degrees), and 3 staff members in administrative office. Everyone is determined to make sure our students are in active learning and pleasant environments. Recently, the Department has undergone some restructuring of the graduate programs with policy in taking students as the core of our curricula. As such, the students are provided with a lot of support for studying and doing research.

The Department also brings in more foreign graduate students to strengthen our international graduate programs. Currently, we have 9 foreign students, 3 in M.Sc. program and 6 in Ph.D. program. Over the years, we have foreign students from many countries, including Cambodia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, The Philippines, Iran, Nigeria, Bhutan and Nepal. The Department aims at having around 20 foreign graduate students all year round. In addition, each year we have 2-5 visiting graduate students from countries such as Vietnam, Iraq, and the United States and we also have 5 visiting undergraduate students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison who come to do short-term research. Continuous enrollment of foreign students from various countries in our graduate programs assures to the public of our high status in the international academic reputation.

As we are of the top-ranked in Microbiology in Thailand for both teaching and research, we encourage students, both Thai and foreigners, who desire to study under challenging and exciting environments to join our real international programs for M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Microbiology. We can assure you that our Department is well equipped with highly qualified staff members with good experience in teaching and expertise in doing research. Our research facilities are well equipped. All Thai students with excellent performance in academic activities are provided with scholarships. Those who have high research productivity can also receive research assistantships. Foreign students are also eligible for scholarships from the Faculty of Science, partial scholarship from the Department, and the research assistantship, providing that their academic records or their research productivity meet with the standard requirement.

If any further information is needed, I and our staff members are more than happy to assist you at any time. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
