MOLECULAR AND MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY utilizes molecular techniques to study beneficial bacteria, fungi, insects as well as plant and animal cells which are important as components in industrial manufacturing. Similar tools are also very effective to fight the diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. In medical biotechnology test systems are being designed to develop new therapies, diagnostic tools and clinical instrumentation.

Our research team is engaged in screening and characterization of new bioactive compounds from soil bacteria/fungi and endophytes, metagenomics of non-culturable microorganisms, analyses of gene function and cellular responses involved in pathogenesis, and genetic characterization and modification of a wide range of different organisms for biotechnological applications. New exciting products and new findings will revolutionize our way of life in the coming decades and will be highly beneficial to mankind as a whole.
