1 Program of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Thailand |
| Our department has long operated
as a leading program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
in Thailand. We are the first department in our country to
offer graduate degrees in Biochemistry. Based on Thai university
ranking in the year 2005 by Thai Commission on Higher Education
(CHE), we were the top-ranked
program of Biochemistry in Thailand. |
 |
| Highest
Publication Output per Staff |
| Currently, we have 18 staff members
who are well established for leading their research teams
and routinely publish their papers in international journals
with high impact factor [ .. see
more details .. ]. On average, each staff publishes about
2.5 papers per year, possibly the highest ratio for any departments
of Thai University. This indicates your good opportunity to
publish your research findings in good international journals.
|
 |
| Your
Qualification is Guaranteed |
| Throughout our long history of almost
45 years, more than 475 graduates have been trained. They
are currently key players in Thai scientific community. By
being trained from our program, your quality in research is
guaranteed and recognized by Thai Scientific community. Our
Ph.D. students usually publish at least two papers with their
names as the first authors. Most of our M.Sc. students have
at least one publication in international journal per person.
|
 |
| Variety
of Research Topics |
| Research is a vital part for our academic program.
Research ongoing in our department covers 7
research areas: 1) Structural
and Mechanistic Enzymology 2) Molecular
Genetics and Cell Biology of Cancer 3) Molecular
and Systemic Biology of Malaria 4) Molecular
Biology and Biochemistry of Pathogenic Bacteria 5) Molecular
Metabolism 6) Proteins
and Proteomics and 7) Plant
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. With a wide range
of research topics, students enrolling in the program can
be sure that their favorite research choices can be met. |
 |
| Up
to Date Coursework and Program |
| Our academic curriculum is regularly
revised and offers up-to-date knowledge in Biochemistry, Cell
and Molecular Biology. M.Sc. students are required to enroll
for at least 24 credits of coursework. Beginning from the
year 2009, four more new courses and a newly revised curriculum
have been introduced. The new courses are SCBC609
Structure and Mechanism of enzymes, SCBC610
Modern Metabolism, SCBC611
Functional Genetics and Genomics, and
SCBC612 Current Protocols in Biomolecular
Research. This course adjustment is part of our commitment
to assure that our students are trained with up-to-date knowledge
of the international standard. ...
[ See more details ]. |
 |
| International
Experience |
| Most of our Ph.D. students receive scholarships
for conducting part of their research overseas. Our staff
have many international collaborations and host several oversea
visiting professors and students every year. |
 |
| Teaching
in English |
| All teaching materials are at the
international standard level and all teaching is conducted
in English. |
 |
| Support
and Scholarships |
| All students with high performance
in academic activity and research productivity are provided
with scholarships. On average, about 90% of students in our
department receive scholarships that cover tuition fee and
monthly stipend. Staff and students regularly receive supports
to participate in international conferences and collaborative
projects, providing opportunities to interact with scientists
overseas. |
 |
| Excellent
Equipments and Facilities |
| The department houses 17 research
laboratories, 3 culture rooms, a P2-containment facility,
an IT room and three instrument rooms. Each laboratory is
well equipped with scientific apparatuses necessary for carrying
out research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Students
have access to some special equipments and facilities that
are not commonly available in Thailand. These include X-ray
Diffractometer, Stopped-flow Spectrophotometer, Anaerobic
Glovebox, Rapid Quench Flow Apparatus, etc.
[ See more details ]. Other sophisticated instruments
necessary for the research such as mass spectrometer, atomic
absorption analyzer, HPLC, GC, etc. are available at Central
Instrument Facility (CIF) of the Faculty. |
 |
| Friendly
Environment |
| Overall, our department provides
stimulating atmosphere with high level of scientific and academic
integrity, and yet is friendly and collegiality. We have our
annual Biochemistry trip every year to welcome new students
and provide opportunities for all department members to do
social gathering outside the lab. |
