The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in associated with the Thailand Society of Exploration Geophysicists (TSEG) will provide “many” financial supports to students and young professionals. You need to register and pay everything in advance and then get reimburse back (with all receipts) at the conference. Please note that participants can read the financial support summary in Thai here.

Before applying for a support, please first ask supports from your sources (e.g., your university, your grant or your company). The unsupported costs can then be asked for the financial supports from the LOC in the form of partial supports. In this case, supports can then be distributed to many who really need. Please remind that not all applicants can get supported because of the limited budgets. The final decision will be upon the LOC.

There are three types of support available:

1) 25% discount on early registration fee: LOC will reduce the early registration fee for young professionals (or academists) and students.

*You must pay full early registration fee first, reimburse will be given at the conference. A receipt of 25% discount registration fee will be issued at the conference (not full registration fee).

2) Partial supports: LOC can provide 3 choices of partial supports.

2.1.) Support for a registration fee: LOC will refund your early registration fee at the conference, so you need to pay the early registration fee first.

2.2) Support for a round-trip transportation cost:

2.2.1 ) For individual application: LOC will refund the round-trip transportation fee according to the actual rate of train and bus (not for airplane) for individual applications. You need to keep all the transportation receipts and give them to us at the conference for a refund. The maximum refund for transportation is 1,800 baht/person.

2.2.2) For institute application: LOC can also provide the transportation cost for renting van from the institute to the conference venue. 8,000 baht would be the maximum per institute. Number of participants from the same institute should exceed 4 people.

2.3.) Support for an accommodation cost: LOC can provide the accommodation support with the rate of 600 Baht/person/night (maximum is 3 nights). A receipt from the hotel is necessary for a refund.

3) Full supports (limited number): LOC can support early registration fee, a round-trip transportation fee according to your actual rate of train, bus (upto 1,800 baht), and an accomodation cost (600 bath/person/night with a maximum of 3 nights). Since number for full supports is very limited, your requests may be reduced to just partial supports. Presentation is mandatory for those who need full support.

Participants who would like to get the financial support can use the online application form below. Please return the filled financial support form to mugeophysics@gmail.com before August 20, 2012. A notification of the financial supports will be sent to you once the selection from the LOC has been finalized.

    Geophysics 2012′s highlights

    (For your preparation before the Saturday lecture)

     The goal of the tutorial lectures is to provide an overview of the fundamentals of geophysical inversion and its application by inverting dc resistivity, IP, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data. Background for the surveys and important steps in the inversion are presented. Practical inversion is carried out by following a workflow and this is illustrated with synthetic and field examples. As supplementary material the UBCGIF Inversion for Applied Geophysics module (IAG) is being made available prior to the conference. Students are encouraged to become familiar with the material on the module and to use the inversion applet and some of the forward modeling and inversion codes.
