Geophysics 2012′s highlights

(For your preparation before the Saturday lecture) The goal of the tutorial lectures is to provide an overview of the fundamentals of geophysical inversion and its application by inverting dc resistivity, IP, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data. Background for the surveys and important steps in the inversion are presented. Practical inversion is carried out by following a workflow and this is illustrated with synthetic and field examples. As supplementary material the UBCGIF Inversion for Applied Geophysics module (IAG) is being made available prior to the conference. Students are encouraged to become familiar with the material on the module and to use the inversion applet and some of the forward modeling and inversion codes.
