Our laboratory focuses
on studying mechanistic enzymology
of some selected oxygenase enzymes,
especially those having flavins as
cofactors. Our investigation uses
variety of techniques and approaches
such as various kinds of spectroscopy,
steady-state and pre-steady state
kinetics, etc. Flavoprotein oxygenases
are present in all aerobic organisms
and crucial for the endogenous metabolic
pathways as well as participate in
degradation of xenobiotic compounds.
Many aromatic compounds in soil are
degraded by these flavoprotein oxygenases.
Understanding how these enzymes work
can bring up a potential of using
these enzymes for environmental remediation.
